Questions about Pilates

What is Pilates?

Pilates is a series of low impact exercises that help develop strong and flexible muscles. It emphasizes core strength and balance whilst improving postural alignment and flexibility. It works your whole body without pain or strain, enabling you to exercise within your own limits and progress at your own pace.

What are the benefits of Pilates?

  • A stronger core (abdominals, back and pelvic floor)

  • Improved flexibility, coordination and balance

  • Reduced risk of back pain and injury

  • Improved posture and body confidence

  • Toned muscles

  • Mindfulness and relaxation

You can apply what you learn in your Pilates class to your daily life; helping you stand taller, sit better, lift correctly, move with ease and prevent injury.

Who can do Pilates?

You can do Pilates irrespective of your age, weight, flexibility and fitness level. It can be especially beneficial for those recovering from injuries, those with chronic pain, and individuals looking to improve their overall fitness.

Health and Safety

Can Pilates help with back pain?

Yes, Pilates can be very effective for managing and reducing back pain by strengthening the core and improving posture. I have personal experience with back pain and am skilled in creating programs to alleviate it.

What if I have an existing injury or health condition?

It’s important to discuss any injuries or health conditions before starting. Book a free consultation and let’s talk. I can then tailor sessions to accommodate and support your specific needs.

Getting Started

How do I start if I am a beginner?

Those new to Pilates can join the beginner classes and learn the basic principles at a slow and steady pace. You will then develop your learning and strength as you progress.

What should I wear to a Pilates class?

Wear comfortable, form-fitting clothing that allows for movement. It's best to avoid baggy clothes as they can make it harder for me to observe your form.

How do I prepare for my first class?

Ensure you have a comfortable space to move in, a mat and a hand towel. Occasionally we sit on blocks; watch my video below to find the perfect height for your block and head pad.

How do I join a live Pilates class online?

You will need a Zoom account and  laptop.  Before the class, please think about your set up. Ideally you’ll position the laptop so I can see your mat lengthways as shown.
